Synopsis: When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate—and prized—parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Louboutins.

When Kennedy looks at Brent, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue–worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school in order to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell for her.

But she’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore—she’s a Washington, DC, prosecutor with a long winning streak. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case, and Kennedy thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.

But things aren’t exactly working out the way she planned. Brent has his sights set on Kennedy, and every fiery exchange only makes him want her more—and makes her wonder if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. In the end, they may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.

“The ride is the only thing that makes the fall worth it.”

That quote describes Brent and Kennedy’s story perfectly. They both grew up right next door to each other and became fast friends. Unfortunately, as they grew older, their paths diverged a little bit. Brent became the quintessential popular jock, while Kennedy remained awkward and was relegated to the sidelines. This changed their friendship drastically, creating a distance between them that hadn’t been there before. Add in some mean jealous girls and you have a recipe for heartbreak. While I do think Brent had some feelings for her, he was, I believe too immature to do the right thing then.

Fast forward to years later. Brent is now a successful defense attorney and has his own successful practice with his friends. Unbeknownst to Brent, Kennedy also became a successful lawyer except that she works for the prosecutor and Brent’s opponent in a case. This brought Kennedy and Brent back together except that this time, Kennedy was tougher and in no mood for a reconciliation with Brent.

Emma Chase can be counted on to deliver not only the laughs but the banter as well as some scorching sexy times, and Appealed again proves that. You can’t help but fall for Brent. We know him as the easy going rich boy who lacks for nothing. In Appealed, Emma Chase showed us two sides to Brent: the sensitive boy who suffered a terrible accident and the tenaciously loyal man who will do anything he can for his friends and for the woman he loves.

Kennedy is the perfect foil for Brent’s easy going charm. She’s tough, prickly but hiding sensitive side. One that she shows only to her closest friends and family. I understood her anger and hostility towards Brent and sympathize with her.

The only thing that really bothered me with this book was the conflict towards the end that was too easily and too neatly resolved. I get that this was a fun and lighthearted read and going in that direction would be too much and that’s probably why it was glossed over but I wasn’t entirely satisfied with it. I did love the extended epilogue though. Seeing the other two couples along with Brent and Kennedy years into the future was truly an awesome way to close out the series.
