The author of I See London sets her sights on Washington, D. C., with a sexy new series about three sisters, the secrets they keep, and a powerful blog with a knack for exposing scandals…

Jackie Gardner knows all about dirty little secrets. The illegitimate daughter of one of the most influential senators in Washington, D.C., she grew up surrounded by the scandals and shadows of politics. Now that she’s landed an internship with a powerful political consulting firm, she’s determined to launch her career and take this city by storm.

William Andrew Clayton was born for politics. He knows the drill: work hard, play discreetly, and at all costs, avoid scandal. At twenty-six, his campaign for the Virginia State Senate is the first step to cementing his future. It’s time for him to settle down, to find the perfect political spouse. He needs a Jackie Kennedy, not a Marilyn…

When Jackie meets Will in the bar of the Hay-Adams Hotel, sparks fly. But the last thing Will needs is to be caught in a compromising position, and an affair with a political candidate could cost Jackie her career. When what began as one steamy night, becomes a passion neither one of them can walk way from, they must decide if what they have is really love, or just another dirty little secret.

♥ My review ♥

What a little gem this book has turned out to be.

This book has a great set up from the get-go. Jackie Gardner is a powerful politician’s dirty little secret. She’s the illegitimate daughter of a powerful Senator and her mother is known in the DC area as a professional mistress of politicians. Drawn by the allure of DC politics, Jackie have reinvented herself into a smart, savvy young woman on the verge of a career breakthrough.

William Clayton is an up-and-coming political powerhouse running for the State Senate of Virginia. He’s got pedigree and the political backing of his powerful family. He’s good guy and he doesn’t have any skeletons in his closet. He is the perfect candidate, in other words, but also a really great guy.

When Will met Jackie, the attraction was there but Jackie found out something about Will that made her walk the other way. Now, in any other book, a runner would have pissed me off but in this book, Jackie has a very good reason to walk away especially when Jackie found herself being assigned to be Will’s campaign consultant, which means, Will is going to be her boss.

This book started out slow but then it slowly builds and builds and before I knew it, I was caught up in Will and Jackie’s growing relationship and the eventual fallout that was sure to happen. Flirting With Scandal doesn’t lead readers into dizzying twists and turns because at onset, one knows that their dalliance won’t end well. Instead, the author gave her readers great characterizations and wonderful dialogue.

Jackie was a wonderful character but she’s not someone who’s easy to like in the context of the book. That doesn’t say she’s unlikable but she’s written as someone who’s cynical and jaded about people in general. She’s someone who has a giant chip on her shoulder. But I loved her character. I loved her drive, her tenacity, her devotion to Will.

Will was the exact opposite. He isn’t naive but he’s the perfect foil to Jackie’s standoffishness. He’s a fantastic hero. It’s so refreshing to actually read about a hero who is not a manwhore. Someone who is not afraid to pursue the heroine despite the consequences. Yes, folks, Will is wonderful.

This story definitely has some angsty moments but not too much that it takes over everything. This could have been an easy 5 for me if not for the sometimes jarring transitions between character POVs. I would have preferred one POV per chapter instead of cramming several Jackie and Will POV into one chapter. And also, I really thought Jackie’s mom will play a bigger part in the climax of the story but after that tense scene with Jackie, she just disappeared. Which makes me wonder if she’s going to make another appearance in the next book in the series. Other than that, this was a fantastic book to start the series.
