We have Jamie Howard in the Racy Lit Lair today! Woot!
Jamie has a new book out called Until We Break, and she very kindly answered all our questions about her book and then some. So before we get to the Q&A portion of this post, be sure to one-click Until We Break. And guys, if you love angst, you’re gonna eat this book up.
When Sloane Avery stops to help a stranded driver, she finds more than a broken down car on the side of the road. Twenty-year-old Luke Evans is faster and sexier than her Maserati, but she’s not interested in taking him for a test drive. Despite their differences and Sloane’s dislike for his Jack and Coke fueled lifestyle, feelings grown between the two. But, when the loss of his little brother sends Luke spiraling, he seeks comfort in Sloane’s arms and ends up between her sheets. The morning after, Sloane’s ready to confess she loves Luke, until she walks in on him getting serviced-by her sister.
That was five years ago, practically a different lifetime and definitely a different Sloane. Before she’s been hardened by booze, sex, and as much distance as she could get from the past. Now, called home by a family emergency, she’s determined to hold onto her heart the next time she sees Luke.
But Sloane’s not the only one who’s changed. With a successful business and a near-perfect girlfriend, Luke’s turned his life around. Only the reappearance of Sloane and the reminder of his biggest mistake can put a dent in his plans. Luke is set on fixing what he’s broken, even if it might cost him more than the comfortable life he’s built himself, but Sloane is having none of it. She’ll do anything to be sure he doesn’t get close enough to find out the truth-she’s still in love with him.
1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Sure! Hi guys, I’m Jamie. waves By day I work for an insurance brokerage firm, but I’m an author by night which is my real passion. I’m an early bird and never waste time matching my socks. I binge-watch TV shows on Netflix whenever I get free time, and revel in getting my friends and family hooked on new shows (if you’re not watching The Flash or The 100, you should be!). My purse could be classified as a weapon with how much it weighs, but that’s not too surprising since I never go anywhere without my Canon DSLR. In between all of that I spend my time wrangling my son, husband, and our three dogs.
2. What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Do you set a daily writing goal?
Since my day job takes up most of my daytime hours, I get most of my writing done at night or on the weekends. And with a toddler, I do my very best to wait until he’s tucked into bed before settling down at the computer. I rarely set daily writing goals for myself unless I’m on a strict deadline. I’ve learned through trial and error that forcing myself to write when I’m too tired or have had a really long day is incredibly unproductive. It took awhile to convince myself, but I’ve learned that sometimes taking a day off is the best thing I can do for my writing.
3. What can your readers expect from this new book/series?
Readers can expect to go on an emotional roller-coaster with Until We Break. There’ll definitely be points in the book where you’ll want to reach through your e-reader and slap them, but (hopefully) you’ll also fall in love with them as much as I did. <— I can definitely attest to the emotional rollercoaster part! Gah!
4) What’s your favorite thing/part about this book?
One of my favorite things about Until We Break is that it spans five years, and you really get to see how certain events shape and change the characters lives—and not necessarily for the better.
5) If you could use a drink to describe the characters in this book would it be and why?
Sloane would have to be a Tequila Sunrise—sweetness with a bite. Luke, on the other hand, would be Scotch on the rocks with a twist—the meaning there is completely literal.
6. I know I’m putting you on the spot but do you have a favorite among the characters you’ve written so far? And if so, why is he/she your favorite?
Oh, that’s a mean question. If I have to pick one, I’d say Kyle, who is the hero in my second book, Until It’s Right. Kyle is a nerdy sweetheart who is incredibly genuine, and is a bit different from a lot of the romance heroes out there right now.
— Sorry not sorry? Heh. We can’t wait to meet Kyle then.
7. If you’re given a chance to become your favorite book character for a day, who would it be and why?
Great question! Hands down, I’d want to be Claire Fraser for a day. The reason: Jamie Fraser. <— (Totally agree with this choice and the reason for it.)
8. What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview? How would you answer that question?
I’ve actually been waiting for someone to ask me: If Until We Break were a song, what song would it be? That way I could tell them that in song form, Until We Break would be a mash-up of Ed Sheeran’s Photograph and Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood.
Thank you so much, Jamie for answering all our questions!
So there you have it, folks! Hope you enjoyed the questions and answers as much as we did. Don’t forget, Until We Break is live on all online book retailers!
