Review: Hard Hitter (Brooklyn Bruisers #2) by Sarina Bowen

Review: Hard Hitter (Brooklyn Bruisers #2) by Sarina Bowen

Sarina Bowen has been consistently delivering heartfelt romances with really strong characters, and Hard Hitter is another Bowen book that I enjoyed thoroughly. Patrick O’Doul is one of NHL’s top enforcer for years. But now age is catching up to him. I have to say that Patrick is probably Sarina’s most self-contained hero. I found it very hard to get a feel for what he’s all about. But I love me some grumpy, taciturn heroes so it came as no surprise that I fell hard for his character, especially his backstory. Ari is the same thing. I started the book not quite sure what she’s all about. At first, I thought that Ari was very much like the hero which worried me a bit because I like it a lot more when there’s contrast between the hero’s personality and the heroine. Chemistry, opposites attract and all that jazz. But again, Sarina’s writing, the way she crafted these characters made a believer out of me. I absolutely enjoyed reading how they both started to change their perception about each other and their feelings start to grow. The pace of their romance was just right. And like Rookie Move, there are plenty of interaction between Patrick and his teammates. And […]

Review: On Broken Wings (Wild Aces #3) by Chanel Cleeton

In all honesty, I was a bit worried about the theme of this book going in. While I do like the dead ex trope, most of the books I’ve read and enjoyed, it was the hero who needed to get over the loss of a wife or a girlfriend or fiancée and not the other way around. I always find it harder to read when the heroine is the one who lost the love of her life because I feel like women feel more deeply and takes a lot more time to get over a relationship especially when that relationship was a loving one. I know it’s prejudiced to think this way but I cannot help it. Hence, my worry that I won’t be able to enjoy it as much. I was wrong. I repeat. I WAS WRONG! This book slayed me. Chanel Cleeton found a way to make this story shine. And there are a couple of things (really smart decisions on her part) the author did that really made this book work for me. One, she made this book messy. Yup. You heard me right. This book didn’t shy away from all the messy emotions involved in trying to get over someone you love. You feel […]

Review: Everything For Her by Alexa Riley

Review: Everything For Her by Alexa Riley

Alexa Riley has been one of my go-to authors whenever I want a quick, sexy, super steamy read. Everything for Her is their first full length novel, and this book had everything long time fans could want in an Alexa Riley book. Possessive hero? Check! Sweet, virginal heroine? Check! Insta love? Check! Super steamy sexy scenes? Double check! That said, I wish I enjoyed the story a lot more. But I found myself a bit concerned by the hero’s stalkerish and possessive nature. There are times when I find myself enjoying a possessive hero. Unfortunately, Oz was just too much. I felt like he crossed the line by taking away a lot of her choices. I mean, sure. He provided her with everything she needs (without her knowing it was him) but a cage is still cage regardless of whether it’s made of gold or wrought iron. There are certain things that the hero did which made me uncomfortable. I get the fantasy of having someone there to give you everything you could dream of. It’s nice fantasy. I wish I just couldn’t turn off this other scenario in my head where instead of a billionaire, the hero is just a regular guy who still lives in his […]

Release Blitz {Spotlight+Review}: Completely Yours by Erin Nicholas

Review   In this delightfully sweet novel, Erin Nicholas explores the age-old question: Can two people who have two completely different interests really make a relationship work? Kiera Connolly is graphic designer who lives a socially quiet life but has a thriving online gaming persona. Zach Ashley is her opposite. Outgoing and popular, Zach is an EMT with a bit of a hero complex. Okay. Not a bit, but a huge hero complex. He’s a fixer. A rescuer. The attraction was instant the moment Zach rescued Kiera from a disastrous event. But Kiera knows well enough that Zach isn’t the kind of guy who would appreciate her quirks or geekiness. And she won’t change even for someone who’s as attractive and sweet as Zach. She’s been there and done that. But as they continue to spend their time together, Zach and Kiera discovers that opposites truly do attract. If only they could find a way to let go of their preconceived ideas about each other. I enjoyed this book from page one until the very end. It started off slow but it builds slowly until I was immersed and invested in the characters. I loved how the author focused on the character’s motivation instead of just throwing one […]

2016 Fave Books List

It’s that time of the year again when we count down that books that made it to our Top Fave List for the year 2016. You might notice that the list this year is considerably smaller, and there are several reasons for that. One, I only read about 124 books this year. Compare that to my previous tally which was around 150 to 250 books from the previous years, it’s no wonder this year’s list only has 6 books in it. Two, 2016 has been a wild and tumultuous year for all of us. I won’t elaborate any further but you guys know what I’m talking about, right? That said, the books that did make it to this list are the books that made our hearts flutter; books that made us laugh and cry. These are the books that remained in our hearts and mind long after we finished reading them. Listed in random order, I present to you The Racy Lit Reader’s Favorite Reads of 2016! Drum roll, please!   The Enforcer (Untamed Hearts #3) by Kele Moon They are the lost boys. Sons of mafia mistresses expected to keep their fathers’ sins in the shadows. The lucky ones are forgotten. Unfortunately for Valentino “Tino” Moretti, his […]

REVIEW: Someone Like You (Oxford #3) by Lauren Layne

I admit I was a bit worried starting this book. For one, the synopsis for this book changed, and so did the name of the heroine. Not a good sign. Second, I loved Lincoln the moment he was introduced in the Sex, Love & Stiletto series. I have been waiting for his book forever. And you know, expectations has the tendency to mess with your reading mojo. BUT Lauren Layne did Lincoln Mathis’ story justice. Yup. Even the heroine change made sense. Daisy and Lincoln together made sense. Someone Like You packs quite an emotional punch. Something that I’ve never quite experience from Lauren Layne before. On the outside, Lincoln and Daisy couldn’t be more different from each other. Daisy is the epitome of a Southern good girl charm until her marriage fell apart. Lincoln is the picture of a man on the prowl. He’s fun, laid back and has women falling all over themselves to get close to him. But unbeknownst to many and even to his closest friends, Lincoln is hiding a very important part of his life. What I like about this story is how the romance between Lincoln and Daisy built from being acquaintances to friends and then to lovers. The obstacles, the insecurities, […]
