I think it’s going to be an emotional reading week for me this week. I have two books on my queue that will probably gut me and send me spiraling into a huge book hangover. But guess what? I don’t care.
I’m reading three awesome books this week.
First up…This Heart of Mine by Brenda Novak.
This is number eight out of her popular Whiskey Creek series. I haven’t read any book from this series yet until this one because the blurb just called out to me. I knew it was going to be a heartbreaking story, and only 2% into the book, I was already crying. That doesn’t always happen to me but I love the premise of this book.
Phoenix Fuller is back after being in prison for 17 years. Years ago, she was convicted for running over her ex-boyfriend’s new girl friend. She was innocent but no one believed the girl from the wrong side of the tracks with a hoarder mother. After years in prison bearing the physical and emotional scars of her incarceration, Phoenix is back in Whiskey Creek to spend time with her 16-year old son. A son she had to give up. A son who might not want to know her.
Riley, her ex and her son’s father isn’t keen on welcoming her back to Whiskey Creek. He doesn’t trust her. And while he always felt conflicted about her conviction, he doesn’t think Phoenix being back in their lives is a good thing. Of course, the almost the whole town doesn’t want her back either.
As I’ve said, this book will definitely be an emotional read for me. *sniff
My second book for the week is The First Kiss by Grace Burrowes. It’s the second book off of her Sweetest Kisses series.
According to the book’s blurb…
James Peckham’s brothers worry he spends too much time at the office. But personal failures have caused James to find solace in his work as a law expert… and in the unfailing comfort of his little black book.
Vera is a twice-divorced mom, fiercely protective of her young daughter, and a world-class piano soloist. When threatening messages cause her to fear for her daughter’s safety, she turns to James for guidance. Business becomes pleasure until Vera learns of his past. As danger looms, can James convince her that he’s not the man he used to be?
I haven’t started yet, but this sounds unconventional. I haven’t read about a twice-divorced heroine before, so I’m definitely looking forward to reading this.
The third book is probably my most anticipated read out of the three, and I know based on previous experience that this one is going to be epic. The Virgin by Tiffany Reisz is the third book from her White Years Series. It follows Eleanor’s heartbreaking decision to leave Søren.
Now if you’ve read the Original Sinners Series, you have an idea how difficult this decision was for Eleanor, and I cannot wait to finally find out the details about why she left Søren. Argh!! So excited. I love, love this series and Tiffany Reisz is just a goddess. I am so glad I gave this series a chance because it has been a fantastic ride so far.
So…I’m set for the week. Hopefully, all three books will be 5 stars for me. What about you guys? What are you reading this week? Share your thoughts with me right in the comments below.
